Daicel-Evonik Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Andre Noppe) succeeded in maintaining flexibility and elasticity of its multifilaments made of "VESTAKEEP," a PEEK resin that is high chemical resistance and thermal resistance, by using special false twist technology at the Industrial Technology Center of Fukui Prefecture (Fukui, Fukui Prefecture: Director: Shinichi Goriki).
PEEK filaments with excellent in elastic modulus are suitable for applications where high stress such as creep occurs. Also, by manufacturing filaments with medical grade PEEK (VESTAKEEPCare), its application can be expanded to fields requiring biocompatibility.
Its soft texture does not seem to be plastic but feels like cotton instead; however, unlike cotton, it shows high elasticity.
Moreover, due to the excellent chemical resistance and autoclave resistance of PEEK, it can withstand the sterilization process under high temperature exceeding 120°C, from which it can be expected to expand to manufacturing other medical equipment / devices. Utilizing these characteristics, we aim to penetrate into a wide range of medical fields.
