Toska-Bano’k Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President: Nobuo Komine), a manufacture of synthetic resin-related products, has succeeded in developing colored tag pins for laboratory specimens used in the medical field by using a special compound, PEEK resin VESTAKEEP-J manufactured by Daicel-Evonik Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Andre Noppe).

Having succeeded in developing tag pin fasteners for the aerospace industry by using VESTAKEEP-J series in 2013, the company utilizes the excellent chemical resistance and hydrolysis resistance of PEEK and has been expanding the application of PEEK products to the field of medical devices.

Tag pins made of PEEK resin with a resistance to chemical agents such as formalin, have long been used as a fastening component of the tags for creating pathology specimens. However, in the medical field, where higher safety and accident prevention at work are required, identification by color is needed for components used by workers. Responding to this request, the company succeeded in adding colors to the resin by using a special secondary processing technique to avoid property degradation by coloring, while maintaining the unique characteristics of PEEK.

PEEK tag pins for medical use are available not only in beige, the original color of PEEK, but also in blue, green, yellow and other colors to facilitate easy identification of the items used at the workplace.
