Daicel-Evonik Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Andre Noppe) is pleased to announce that it has realized a technology for the direct bonding of its PEEK  resin “VESTAKEEP®” to metal.

Traditionally, it was believed that it was almost, or completely impossible to bond many resins, including Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK), to metal, making the realization of high-strength, highly-durable bonding of metal and resin an issue. The application of a laser technology enabled the realization of the direct bonding of PEEK resin VESTAKEEP® with metal.

This technology realizes the direct bonding with VESTAKEEP® by laser processing of the metal surface and insert molding. Compared to conventional bonding by applying chemical treatment of the metal surface, the new technology offers the advantage of a longer treated metal lifetime and applicability to a large number of metal types. Moreover, as well as greater joint strength, the use of VESTAKEEP® provides outstanding joint performance in environments that demand high thermal and chemical resistance.

In addition to joint strength, we expect that this new technology will offer the benefits of cost reduction through the ability to bond metal directly to resin and will provide environmentally-friendly performance through the realization of a completely dry process. The use of VESTAKEEP® in this technology, a resin that offers outstanding thermal resistance and high rigidity, will enable us to meet the diverse needs of our customers.

With the goal of realizing even further improvements in reliability, Daicel-Evonik will continue to provide its customers with attentive technical support.
