The 'VESTAKEEP®' polyetheretherketone (PEEK) of Daicel-Degussa Ltd. (headquartered in Shinjuku-Ku, Tokyo with Taiji Yamabe as company president) was recently introduced in earnest as a plastic molding material for use in the Just In Make® manufacturing technique of KDA Corporation (headquartered in Ohta-Ku, Tokyo with Yukinori Kida as president), which is engaged in engineering plastic manufacturing and ceramic baking.
The Just In Make® technique developed by KDA is one in which plastic pellets are molded into a block that is close to the final shape and the block is then machine-cut to form the completed product. This manufacturing technique is drawing considerable attention, since it allows for small-volume production runs of various molded products at reasonable cost. According to KDA, VESTAKEEP® was employed as a manufacturing material because ¡Èit provides great cost benefits and excellent flexibility in material selection to help increase market competitiveness, not to mention the outstanding properties and functions inherent in this plastic resin. The demand for PEEK will certainly grow in the years to come, since it¡Çs a plastic that meets extreme property requirements.¡É
VESTAKEEP® is applied to components used in the semiconductor manufacturing process due to its excellent resistance to staining, and is used for agitator turbines on the basis of its superior resistance to abrasion. Moreover, thanks to its environmental friendliness and recyclability, this plastic has high potential as a coating material to replace fluorine. Our full-scale marketing of VESTAKEEP® in Japan only began in April 2007, but we have since received many inquiries about this product for use as a material for electronic and electrical components. VESTAKEEP® was highly rated by the customers of the related markets who used it in an experimental run. Furthermore, in addition to our regular product marketing effort, we have our own technical center located in Himeji City, Hyogo, through which we provide technical support for the development of new products to meet diverse customer needs.
Daicel-Degussa will showcase and demonstrate a variety of VESTAKEEP® molded products and examples of their applications at SAMPE JAPAN 2007 (to be held at Tokyo Big Sight), which will be held from November 28 through 30.
* PEEK is an abbreviation for polyetheretherketone (ISO 1043).
