PR: Daicel-Evonik's PEEK Resin "VESTAKEEP®" Adopted as Intermediate Material

"VESTAKEEP®", Polyether Ether Ketone by Daicel-Evonik Ltd. (headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Taiji Yamabe), has been adopted in earnest as an intermediate material for prototyping/molding by Kanto Extron Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture; Representative Director: Keiichi Akasaka), a manufacturer of products formed from super-engineering plastics.

Kanto Extron, which has many years of practical experience in PEEK molding and possesses extensive know-how in the field, cites the following points as the reasons it decided to add VESTAKEEP to the product lineup as another option for PEEK material:

1. VESTAKEEP® has excellent functions and characteristics.
2. It is backed by a strong technical support system in Japan.
3. Many grade variations (e.g., reinforced grades with fillers ) are available.

PEEK is increasingly drawing attention as a high-end material that meets the strict demands of the day, such as weight reduction and environmental friendliness. Since its full-scale launch in the Japanese market in April 2007, VESTAKEEP® has made steady inroads into the market. We are already receiving many inquiries regarding this product, and the evaluation results of samples have been high. VESTAKEEP® is already used in automobile manufacturing, liquid crystal products and medical equipment, among others.

Besides the excellence of VESTAKEEP® itself, the three-in-one support system of Daicel-Evonik--where we as the material supplier are involved in the development of a new material or application from the development stage--and our Technical Center in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, are key factors in driving the sales of VESTAKEEP®. Technical support in Japan and speedy feedback from the supplier side significantly contribute to the reduction of development time.

VESTAKEEP® also offers many grade variations. In addition to the basic PEEK grade, the carbon-fiber grade, glass-fiber grade and other reinforced grades exhibit stable performance of very high levels, and can thereby withstand the severe use environments to which PEEK is often subjected. We also have the fine-powder (FP) grade, ultrafine-powder (UFP) grade and other fine-particle grades for use in coating applications that use electrostatic coating processes, etc. Coating film formed by VESTAKEEP® offers high resistance to heat and wear. Accordingly, these advantageous features of coating film encourage the hope that VESTAKEEP® will be adopted as a replacement for the fluororesins currently used in coating processes.
